Missing child's body, mom and two other children found in Lake Minnesota

On Friday, a child's body was found in a lake just north of St. Paul, Minnesota, and a search continued. .. Their mother and two other children that authorities call "potential triple murder." Authorities believe that their disappearance may be related to the death of an adult man earlier in the day. The

incident began around 10:30 am local time when police were asked to report suicide at their home in Maplewood, a city just west of St. Paul. Lieutenant Joe Steiner of Maplewood Police said at a press conference at night that he had found an adult man dead on the scene. The exact cause of death has not been revealed, Steiner said he is investigating.

Around 4 pm, police responded to Lake Vadne with information about possible murder-suicides that may be related to Maplewood's death, Steiner said. Authorities began looking for three children and one woman on the lake.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher confirmed that the body of one child was found. The other two children remain missing. Fletcher identified the missing woman as the mother of three children, all believed to be under the age of five, but did not provide details.

"We have recovered one kid on the lake here. Our water patrol and diving team is actively looking for the other two," Fletcher said. I did. "We still don't know where their mother is. We treat this as a potential triple murder here at Lake Vadne, following the murder at Maplewood."

Children's shoes were found on the lake, Fletcher said. According to Steiner, his mother's car was also recovered on-site, as well as other items that made authorities believe they might be in the area.

Authorities said it was not yet clear whether the deceased man had a relationship with the missing mother and children.
