Dak Prescott out again as Jerry Jones walks back Cowboys QB controversy talk

Dak Prescott will miss his fourth straight game, but Jerry Jones is no longer talking about their being a quarterback controversy.

Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports that Prescott is out for the Cowboys’ Sunday game against the defending Super Bowl champion Rams. Prescott injured his thumb on his throwing hand during Dallas’ season opener against Tampa Bay.

This means Cooper Rush will get his fourth consecutive start — the Cowboys have gone 3-0 over the past three weeks with the backup in at quarterback.

Last month, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that he’d relish the idea of there being a quarterback controversy between Rush and Prescott.

“That means we’d won,” Jones said on Sept. 22. “If he comes in and plays as well as Prescott played … I’d walk to New York to get that.”

Tuesday morning, on his weekly spot on 105.3 the Fan in Dallas, Jones was asked if he would stick with Rush over Prescott when the latter was healthy.

“No. No. As I see it right today,” Jones answered.

Jones added that Prescott’s grip on the football was not healthy enough for him to return to competition.

The Cowboys owner admitted that he did not think the team would’ve rolled off three straight victories over the Giants, Bengals and Commanders.

“No. No, I did not,” Jones said.

Rush has completed 60.8 percent of his passes, throwing for 7.2 yards per attempt in relief of Prescott this season. He’s thrown four touchdown passes and has not yet tossed an interception.

The Cowboys are 4 1/2-point underdogs in Los Angeles on Sunday.
