Dennis Eckersley will soon be leaving the Red Sox booth. He wouldn't watch many Pirates games as a casual fan.
The 67-year-old Hall of Fame reliever lit up the Pirates' "pathetic" roster Tuesday night in a game that Boston won 5-3 in him.

"You talk about an unnamed lineup There's no team like it," said Eckersley. "This is a hodgepodge of nothingness. It's ridiculous. It really is."
Eckersley and his broadcast partner Dave O'Brien describe what the Royals are doing to rebuild the Pirates. compared negatively with ''It's ridiculous. They have a 45-71 season and a total of 194-306 over the last three seasons.
Luckily for the legendary his A's closer, this would be the last series he was forced to watch the Pirates play. Eckersley told The Boston Globe that he plans to leave the NESN booth after the season ends.
"Having grandchildren in the Bay Area and visiting them in the offseason really pushed me," Eckersley said. "I just knew, you need to go and be with your kids. Those formative years, you need to be there.
