Drew Barrymore and Nicole Richie have one thing in common — getting lit. And, no, I don’t mean the drunken partying version. During today’s interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, they both told their traumatic birthday stories where their hair caught on fire.
After Richie opened up about her bearded dragon’s death, Barrymore used the topic to segue into the conversation.
“Speaking of losing things. I know that something happened to both of us on our birthdays that’s crazy and doesn’t, I feel, happen to everybody,” the talk show host said, referencing the viral video from Richie’s birthday last year, where her hair caught on fire as she was blowing out her birthday candles.
The Making the Cut star explained, “I made my wish, blew out my candles, and then lit up into flames and set myself on fire.”
Luckily, Richie wasn’t harmed as she told the audience she “didn’t even feel it,” adding that “it was so fast.”
She continued, “It caught on fire and then just magically went out. I don’t know how that happened,” to which the Wedding Singer actress pointed out, “So did the video. It caught on fire. It went super viral.”
Meanwhile, Barrymore told her own candle horror story from a birthday she celebrated in her late twenties, where her dancing led to a hot mess — literally.
“I was dancing and I danced right into a candle on the wall and my whole hair went up,” she said.
However, the damage seemed to be a bit worse than Richie’s, as she told the audience that “a lot of hair came out.”
