Drew Barrymore Praises Prunes in Oddball Opening Segment on ‘Drew Barrymore Show’: “I Love Prunes”

The Drew Barrymore Show is ending this week on a healthy note. During a conversation with Bros star Guy Branum, the first several minutes of Drew Barrymore’s morning talk show were dedicated to a conversation about prunes. Has she officially run out of things to talk about?

As Barrymore introduced the comedian and star (and co-producer) of the new romantic comedy, she made sure to point out that he hails from the prune capital of the world — Yuba City, California.

“I am from [Yuba City] and so I have spent the last five years tweeting at the California Prune Board, demanding that they make me their unofficial, official ambassador,” Branum explained to which Barrymore said, “They should!”

The actor then shared that his tweets were answered and they did, in fact, grant him the role.

“I am here to represent prunes, people do not respect prunes. They think that they are, like, just for health or whatever,” he joked. “They are delicious. I brought you some lovely panforte.”

As the duo, along with Drew’s News co-host Ross Mathews, chowed down on the dish, they all raved about their love for the fruit.

“I love prunes,” Barrymore admitted before Mathews quipped, “Prunes are having a real movement.”

It wasn’t long before they were imagining their own recipes, or as Mathews called it, Ross-ipes. He offered the idea of substituting a bacon-wrapped date stuffed with goat cheese with a prune, something Branum seconded.

While this segment seemed to last forever, the rest of the episode was spent talking to Branum, Billy Eichner, and Luke MacFarlane about Bros, which released in theaters today.

“You are a rom-com icon and you giving your blessing to this movie means so much to all of us,” Branum told Barrymore.

She added that the movie “has more than my blessing” and that “I really love this film.”
