Fifty years after Title IX, we must protect women's sports

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles.

Fifty years ago today, President Richard Nixon signed Title IX of the 1972 Education Reform. Title IX mandates equality for men and women in federal-funded educational institutions. Sadly, Democrats have changed the original intentions of Title IX head-on, advocating that biological men compete with biological women and effectively destroy women's sports.

The purpose of Title IX was to renew the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The law did not prohibit discrimination against women in educational institutions at the time. A by-product of the 1972Education Amendmentaims to provide women with an equal playing field for education, with the same funding for women's sports teams from kindergarten to high school and men's sports teams. Leaded to the university level to receive.

Thanks to this, the number of female athletes has increased dramatically.

According to the National Medical Library, from 1973 to 2018, the percentage of high school sports played by girls increased from 24.2 percent to 42.9 percent. The authors state that "women's participation in high school sports continues to grow, not only in numbers, but also in the types of sports they play."

In grade 1971-1972, less than 300,000 girls participated in high school athletic programs, while more than 3.5 million boys participated during the same period. Fast-forwarding in 2018-2019, more than 3.4 million girls are participating in high school exercise programs.

This extension wasn't limited to high school sports.

In 1972, less than 30,000female athletesparticipated in inter-university sports. In 2020, a record number of students participated in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports, with more than 280,000 men and 220,000 women participating in the university's professional sports team.

All Americans have the right to express themselves freely, as long as their actions do not violate the rights of others, which is exactly what is happening in women's sports. Allowing men to participate in women's sports ignores hundreds of years of science, biology and reality. It throws out certain rules designed to keep athletics fair.

I've heard tragic stories about young women and girls from all over the country who have lost competition and even scholarships for biological men who have chosen to identify themselves as women and girls. Unfortunately, many of these young women trying to speak up are threatened and silent.

16 athletes from the University of Pennsylvania Women's Swimming and Dive Team wrote in an open letter, "Pen, our school, our league, feel like NCAA isn't supporting us. Was often. " If Lia Thomas publicly spoke against participating in women's competitions, they would either be removed from the team or said, "We will never receive a job."

Lia Thomas defeated the Olympic silver medalist to win theNCAA Women's 500 Freestyle. This is a deep distortion of Title IX, robbing the women who won them in the name of gender identity politics.

The World Swimming Federation has banned many transgender athletes from participating in women's events, but already has the opportunity and medals because they had to compete with biological men. This measure is too late for the lost woman.

To protect the future of women's and girls' sports, Democrats need to remember the women's equality that underlies Title IX.

Women's sports are hard-working women And train for girls, not men who need to book for them. Biological men should not be allowed to participate in women's sports. Sports for girls should only include girls.

This is not a partisan issue.

President Biden and Chairman Pelosi are on the left Perpetuating radical gender ideology, women are better worth from their elected leaders. It's shameful that Democratic split politics and radical gender ideology are ignoring basic science and destroying women's sports created to protect Title IX.
