Forecaster: Hurricane Bonnie could bring floods to Mexico

Hurricane Bonnie moved parallel to the Mexican coast on Monday after becoming the third hurricane in the region this year.

Bonnie was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday night after a sustained wind increased to 130 kilometers per hour.

The first tropical storm hit land on the Caribbean coast near the border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Nicaragua's army said two people were killed in a storm because of the flood.

El Salvador officials said one person died in a heavy rain.

The storm has now crossed Central America and reached the Pacific Ocean, making it the third hurricane of the eastern North Pacific season.

Mexico is not expected to land as it moves parallel to the coast. However, the Mexican Meteorological Agency warns that storms can cause strong winds and rain, landslides, and floods.

The storm was centered around 370 kilometers southeast of Acapulco, Mexico, with an hourly wind of 150 kilometers at the beginning of Monday.

Expected to leave the Mexican coast on Wednesday.
