Gavin Newsom’s laughable gripe about conservative media bias

You have to admire the chutzpah of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who ludicrously claimed last weekend that Democrats were at a disadvantage because conservative media controls the story. Really!

“These guys are ruthless on the other side. Ruthless on the other side,” Newsom said. “That prime-time line up by Fox, they are ruthless. They dominate the most important thing in American politics today, and that’s the narrative. Facts become secondary to narrative. They dominate with illusion. We are getting crushed.”

It’s the ultimate in projection. On story after story, the media follow Democratic talking points to the letter. Asking for young children not to be taught about sex becomes “don’t say gay.” Crime-ridden Democratic cities? They’re not that bad, the press says.

As Post columnist Michael Goodwin pointed out on Sunday, nowhere is this more true than with immigration. The media have ignored or minimized the flood of illegal migrants, and ask no hard questions on President Biden’s open-border policies.

When Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard to prove a point, it “backfired,” the media said. “After migrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard, a community gathered to welcome them,” said NPR.

Welcome them . . . for one afternoon. Then they were all shipped off by ferry to a military base. It was a perfect example of privileged hypocrisy, but reporters quickly spun it as a victory.

“Dominate with illusion”? What world are you living in Gavin? Oh, that’s right, California: home of $5.80 a gallon gas (versus the national average of $3.73); a state with a homicide rate that has risen 9.1% this year even as arrests have fallen 7%; a place where they are delaying the release of student test scores until after the November elections because they are expected to be horrific.

This isn’t a narrative that needs inventing; you did it yourself. You’re just mad that there’s one station on cable television — just one — that won’t spin these failures for you. Democrats only have CBS, NBC, CNN, ABC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC . . .

You’re right about one thing, though, Gavin. You are getting crushed.
