Gayle King Calls Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Affair “Very Messy and Very Sloppy” on ‘WWHL’

Gayle King has weighed in on the drama unfolding at Good Morning America, calling it not only “messy,” but also “very sloppy.” Last night, The former GMA correspondent shared her thoughts on Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ cheating scandal while appearing on Watch What Happens Lives with Andy Cohen.

The CBS co-host was asked if she rejoices over the controversy taking place at GMA, not her current employer, but she didn’t take the bait. King responded, “No. I mean, I look at the situation and I do say, it’s very interesting what’s happening over there.”

She continued, “it’s gotten very messy and very sloppy,” but commended the network’s initial decision to not take Holmes and Robach off air, calling the alleged couple “two consenting adults.”

Still, King told WWHL that she thinks the situation has gotten more complicated in recent days, explaining, “The more you read, it’s just very messy and I think it’s just a sad situation because you’ve got kids involved. You’ve got families involved. I keep thinking about that. Yeah, I’m very concerned about that.”

This week, GMA pulled Holmes and Robach off the air following their alleged affair, which was first reported by The Daily Mail on Nov. 30. That day, both parties deleted their social media and Robach was absent from the show’s broadcast. However, as King pointed out, the next day both hosts resumed their co-anchor duties on the network’s lunchtime program GMA3, alongside Dr. Jennifer Ashton.

Unfortunately for gossip hounds and newfound GMA fans, their time on air was short-lived. TMZ released a report the following Monday saying that the two hosts have been pulled from the show indefinitely, and they have not returned since, despite reports of viewership spiking.

ABC News President Kim Godwin called the situation an “internal and external distraction” while on a call with executives, per TMZ. Godwin reportedly said, “I want to say that while that relationship is not a violation of company policy, I have really taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization.”

No further plan of action has been released by the network.

Don Lemon, host of CNN’s This Morning, responded to the drama before King weighed in on WWHL. Lemon asked for others to not jump to conclusions, and advocated for Holmes and Robach to come back on air.

“I love them and I wish them the very best and I think we should offer people grace in these situations until we actually know what the facts are,” he said, per The Daily Mail.

Since the initial news broke, it has been alleged that Holmes also had a three-year affair with a former show producer.
