German Prime Minister says Putin is ready to wage a "long" Ukrainian war

Scholz: Putin could wage a long war in Ukraine

German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz said Russia's President Vladimir Putin had prepared for at least a year before instigating the war with Ukraine, Putin could sustain a "long" pulled out attack. I predicted it was likely.

Scholtz commented in an interview with Margaret Brennan, moderator and foreign correspondent for CBS News' Face the Nation, at the NATO Summit in Madrid. The war with Ukraine has been going on for more than four months now, and Russia is gradually making a profit using its firepower . US intelligence estimates that Russia currently accounts for about 20% of the country, most of which is in eastern Ukraine.

"When will Russia be unable to continue this battle? When will Putin run out of weapons and money? Or can this last for years?" Brennan said. I asked Putin.

No one really knows, Schortz replied, but Putin's long plan is that he is ready for a lasting war effort. It suggests that there is.

"He's probably the leader of a very nice country where many people live there and have many means, and he's really waging this brutal war-and He prepared for it (for) very long, "Shortz said. "I think the decision to wage this war was made a year before, or perhaps before, the war began, and he would be able to continue the war for a really long time."

Putin's continued assault on Ukrainewas at the forefront of discussions at this week's NATO summit. As a result of fear of Putin's invasion, Finland and Sweden are ready to join NATO.

"He wanted to reduce NATO," Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told President Putin this week. "President Putin is currently gaining more NATO at the border."

Details of this exclusive interview will air tonight on "CBS Evening News" and will be "Face the Nation" on Sunday. It will be broadcast on "Nation".
