RJ Barrett doesn’t sound put off by the rumors of his inclusion in trade packages for Donovan Mitchell.
Before agreeing to a four-year, $120 million extension with the Knicks, Barrett’s name was included in trade talks with the Jazz.
“I’m here,” he said on Monday as select Knicks players met the media. “Rumors are rumors.”
Barrett said he spent the summer in “isolation” working on his game, so he wasn’t necessarily aware of any rumors. But they didn’t concern him now that he’s been made aware of what may or may not have transpired. He didn’t reach out to the front office about them. The Knicks thought highly enough of him to pay him big money in an extension.
“Very happy, very thankful,” Barrett said of his new deal. “I’ve always wanted to be here.”
