Our worlds are colliding! Film star Kristen Stewart is directing Boygenius’s new music video “the film,” which is scheduled to be released today.
This isn’t Stewart’s first time in the director’s chair. Previously, the actor directed music videos for Sage and the Saints and Chvrches. She also directed a short film called “Come Swim” in 2017 and an episode for Netflix’s COVID anthology series Homemade in 2020.
Stewart held her breakthrough role as Bella Swan in the popular Twilight film series and went on to star as Joan Jett in The Runaways and Princess Diana in Spencer, the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination. She also had a main role in the 2019 remake of Charlie’s Angles and the Hulu Christmas movie Happiest Season.
Boygenius, on the other hand, is a singer-songwriter collaboration between Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus — all of whom are established solo artists. The band formed in 2018 and released their self-titled EP that year. They are now preparing to launch their studio album The Record, which will debut tomorrow (March 31).

When Will “the film” Be Released?
Boygenius’s music video for “the film” will be released tomorrow, March 31, at 12:00 a.m. ET on YouTube. The project was directed by Kristen Stewart and will have its global premiere March 30 in Los Angeles at a secret time and location. An invitation was distributed to fans earlier this week with a sign-up link that states that the “first 175 fans to enter” will be invited to attend. The event is 18+.

Kristen Stewart’s music video for “the film” will be released on the Boygenius YouTube channel. The band currently has one official music video for “Not Strong Enough,” a filmed live concert, and two other singles on their channel.
