A TikToker has sparked online debate after sharing a viral clip of himself cleaning up his own table at a restaurant after dining.
South Carolina native Nicolas Conquer gathered nearly 850,000 views on his video posted last week.
“POV: Your [sic] a customer who has worked in the service industry so not only do you tip but you clean up after yourself like a grown up,” he wrote on the clip, which showed Conquer rushing to neatly stack his dirty dishes and utensils after brunch with his grandma.
“What a concept,” he added in the caption.
In the comments, users discussed if it’s proper etiquette to pile up dishes and glasses for the server. Some agreed it’s “just manners” and “respectful,” while others argued it’s not their “job” to clean up.
“I’ve done this for my family since I was little it’s just manners,” declared one TikToker.
“Never was a server but always do this,” another person chimed in.
“Are there people out there not doing this?” wrote a shocked viewer, saying they’ve “been doing this as a kid.”
“Not my job,” disagreed someone else.
“So ya’ll want me to do ur job for you and tip you 20%,” commented one dismayed user.
“That actually looks bad for the waiter even tho it’s a nice gesture,” noted another.
“I’ve worked in restaurants my whole life, wait staff are fine literally part of the job is clearing the table,” someone else offered.
In a later clip, the fitness enthusiast, who boasts 11,000 followers on the platform, said he’s “glad” he doesn’t “go viral for anything negative.”
“I didn’t post that to give myself a pat on the back,” he added.
“I posted that to set an example for adults who have the table manners of a toddler. Common decency isn’t common I guess.”
The long-standing debate over restaurant etiquette typically revolves around tipping.
An NYC server blasted some patrons this week online after they reportedly only tipped a measly 10% for what they claimed was great service.
And one mom recently shared on TikTok that she was shocked her son only tipped 10% while on a date, forcing him to return to the restaurant because she “raised him better than this.”
