Talk about a fashion faux pas.
A shocked TikToker was duped by the popular fast-fashion retailer Shein when she received a crop top in the mail after ordering a knee-length dress.
Tori Walker purchased the crochet frock for her upcoming travels to Thailand with her fiancé, but was bewildered when she pulled a tiny shirt from the packaging.
The website’s photo had shown an olive dress with tassels that was supposed to reach her knees, but when she tried it on, it barely reached her stomach.
“It was just so funny. It’s really short and gappy. When I took it out of the bag I was so confused,” she told Southwest News Service. “It just kept making me laugh. I thought, ‘Um, that’s short,’ so I tried it on and was like, ‘No…’ “
She even rushed to read the reviews to see if others had fallen victim to the site’s latest gaff, but it seemed hers was the only one.
“I just kept on laughing because how does mine look so different? It’s literally like a crop top,” the 25-year-old said. “I’m a bit fuming, because it’s also bad quality with threads hanging out of it, and because I was really excited and happy when I ordered it and I thought it was going to look really nice.”
She doesn’t think it was the wrong item since the product codes matched, but Shein’s customer service team offered her a replacement or a refund and apologized “for the troubles.”
“I don’t have time to replace it now. I expect I’ll wear it just once for a laugh, but with a top underneath,” she said of the nearly $15 garment.
The team promised Walker that the warehouse had been alerted of the oddity, and that they will do their best to “improve our product inspection so we can provide you with a more pleasant shopping experience in the future.”
This isn’t the first time Shein has been under fire for mishaps. In 2020, the budget-friendly site was slammed for selling a swastika necklace, while their “denim leg warmers” and ultra-skimpy bikinis were blasted online earlier this year.
