I was dying: my miracle cure was raw egg Guinness

I know the saying: A glass of Guinness beer and a raw egg a day keeps the doctor away.

The British retired pub mistress and ex-nurse says that she kept her alive, including the hours she was away from the afterlife. I think it's because of the combination of ingredients.

Maggie Ives, 78, was living in a sheltered living facility in Malvern, Worcester, when she fell in February and fractured her pelvis.

"I can't even tell you what hospital I was in," she told her South West News Service. “All I can say is I was there 22 weeks. Ailing, she was then transferred to Henwick Grange (Assisted Living) where she received palliative care.

However, Ives was not expected to survive the night and her family was encouraged to begin funeral arrangements. Ives recalled that the woman who had admitted her to the hospital said she "said goodbye" that night and even "didn't expect to see me in the morning."

"I put her on 133 antibiotics. I didn't even know where I was," she said.

But the body of the persistent elder had other plans.

Magie Ives says she "swears by" the life-saving combination.

"When I did it all night, I asked the staff. Try an old recipe from years ago when you were feeling ill," she said. "I'm a big believer in raw eggs and Guinness. I swear by it.

"It doesn't taste like eggs at all," added Ives. “You just swallow them. I'm in.

"I feel like I've come back from the dead," the lifelong smoker told SWNS.

Ives, soon to be 79, said Henwick Grange was "a new I am grateful to the people around me.

"You can't blame the staff here, from washerwomen to cleaners, caregivers to administrators," said Ives. If I want scampi every day, I'll eat scampi every day," she added.

But even better, she's feeling her best these days.

"I'm walking again now. I haven't walked in two years," said Ives.

Ives said she feels like her current care facility "gave her a new lease of life," and she appreciates those around her.

She is very strong. I was impressed with her spirit," Mitchell said. "I have never seen a more dramatic reversal." Keep her drinking beer.

"I will stay here until they kick me out. This is my home," she said of her facility.

"To me they are angels." I'm just as happy and strong as I've been feeling over the years."
