Dear Edward is the latest drama to premiere on Apple TV+. Three episodes of the series hit the streaming service on Feb. 3.

The new show comes from Jason Katims, the same producer behind Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, among others. It follows Edward Adler (Colin O’Brien), a 12-year-old boy who is the lone survivor of a plane crash that kills his entire family.

The series also stars Connie Britton, who last worked with Katims on Friday Night Lights, Taylor Schilling, and Amy Forsyth.

You’ll be able to watch new episodes of Dear Edward every Friday through March 24. Apple TV+ is an ad-free streaming service full of original content; it costs $6.99/month after a seven-day free trial.

IS DEAR EDWARD BASED ON A BOOK?

Yes, Dear Edward is based on a book, which is also partially inspired by a true story.

Author Ann Napolitano was inspired to write the novel after hearing about the crash of Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 in 2010. Like in her book, the crash only had one survivor: a young boy.

In the book, as Edward struggles with grief and newfound fame, he discovers letters from relatives of the deceased passengers hidden in his uncle’s garage, all addressed to him.
