Islamic jihadist killed in Gaza

A senior commander of extremist Islamic holy war was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza, officials said Sunday.

Islamic Jihad officials said Khaled Mansour and two other militants were killed on strike.

Israeli forces have stated that about 600 rockets have been launched in Israel from the Gaza Strip since Friday.

Israel is responding to Palestinian rocket attacks with airstrikes, despite using Iron Dome interceptors with a high success rate against rockets.

Current pre- and post-attacks have killed at least 30 Palestinians, including women and children.

"Innocent children and families have been involved in a violent cycle of violence, as far as I can remember," said Carsten Hansen, director of the Middle East region of the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The attack could escalate further on Sunday as the Jews observe the holy day at the location of the flash point, which the Jews call the temple mountain and the Muslims call it the noble sanctuary.
