Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey responded to reports that Beijing continued to embrace strict policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. And blamed the Chinese Community Party over the weekend.
Dorsey tweeted in response to a June 2 report from CNN's Serena One, which introduced the inside of China's "Zero COVID" strategy in Beijing. This includes a mandatory COVID-19 test with color-coded access to public areas. About the consequences and tracking apps that exacerbated the fear of government surveillance.

China has repeatedly implemented blockades in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai to prevent the spread of COVID-19 cases. It's unclear why Dorsey was inspired to speak out about CCP's actions.

"People are frustrated after these on and off restrictions last for more than two years." Wang said. "All parts of our day are tracked and monitored. People are concerned that this control will last long after the COVID is gone."
Dorsey resigned as Twitter CEOlast November. Under his watch, the social media giant cracked down on bot accounts that "tweeted primarily in Chinese and spread geopolitical stories in favor of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)."

Dorsey's tweet came during a period of heightened tensions between the United States and China over Beijing's fighting stance against Taiwan.
China recently conductedmilitary exercises, including a simulated attack on Taiwan, after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi visited the island last week. Pelosi was the top US official who visited Taiwan in decades.
The United States has warned China to take military action against democratically governed island nations that the Chinese government considers to be part of its territory.
