Bam Margera has been hospitalized after contracting pneumonia, and is currently on a ventilator as he continues to undergo treatment for his condition. TMZ reports that the Jackass star has been diagnosed with “a very serious case of pneumonia,” and has also tested positive for COVID-19.
Margera was admitted to a San Diego hospital earlier this week, per TMZ, where he first tested positive for the virus. Because of the severity of his illness, the reality star was put on a ventilator and treated in the ICU, but is in stable condition.
His hospitalization comes amidst a difficult year for Margera, who has been in rehab twice this year and fled both facilities, only to later return for treatment. Margera has openly struggled with drugs and alcohol over the years, and his family reportedly staged an intervention in June in an effort to help him seek treatment.
Margera’s brother and mother posted a joint statement on Instagram in August updating fans on Margera’s treatment after he was appointed a temporary healthcare guardian.
“Bam is currently in treatment and we are helping him with his social media while he focuses on his recovery,” they shared at the time. “We are his family who love and communicate with him to collaborate on his content and updates. With much appreciation, we thank his former healthcare guardian, @limafromaura, for all she contributed. Thank you to everyone for your support during this wild ride. Margera has also received open support from his former Jackass co-star Johnny Knoxville, despite his difficult experience filming the most recent Jackass film, Jackass Forever, which Margera was cut from after testing positive for Adderall.
In an October interview with Variety, Knoxville insisted he still loves Margera and only wishes him well, telling the outlet, “It boils down to: I love Bam. I know that a lot has happened. I just want him to get well for himself and his family. I love the guy, and I want him to get well and stay well.”
