Jersey City Councilman Amy DeGuise doubles down on hit-and-run allegations: 'I'm not resigning'

Jersey City Councilman Amy DeGuise faces growing calls to resign after allegedly hitting a cyclist in a car last month before fleeing the scene Naka doubled down on his decision not to resign.

At Wednesday night's City Council meeting, DeGise addressed her personal attacks and pushed back against her critics who called for her resignation. About 100 people spoke out at a public meeting, she said, before commenting further on the situation. Most of the speakers called for DeGise's resignation. Only a few expressed support.

"Once the legal proceedings in traffic court are over, I will have more to say and I can address any outstanding concerns or questions. In the meantime, I will not resign.” Her two-plus hour interview with members of the community.

"I hope no one herewill be exposed to this degree of trauma," said. ``But if you do, I will stand on your back. I am stronger now, and I will use that power to fight for problems that help all residents," added DeGise.

She is horrified by this situation I thought about it and wanted to keep this issue private.

"I'm a more private person than you think. I know everyone thinks I enjoy the public eye [but] I'm very I'm a private person," she said DeGise. "And I would like to take this personally. I would like to give that respect, but it has become vulgar."

DeGise also addressed those who have supported her in the alleged incident.

City councilors said there was no trial date for the alleged crimes.
