John Deere Classic 2022: JT Poston will be wire-to-wire for victory

J.T. Poston won a wire-to-wire victory on Sunday at John Deere Classic's second PGA Tour title and the spot at theBritish Open.

Before celebrating the day at the TPC Deere Run, Poston closed the British Open qualifying companions Christian Bezidenhout and Emiliano Grilo with a two-under 69 by three strokes.

"Difficult," Poston said. "Wire-to-wire, having a lead for a long time, it's hard not to think about that thin line all week long. I tried to stick to the game plan."

Poston finished with 21 under 263. He started in 62, 65 and 67 rounds.

Bezidenhout fired 66 and Grillo fired 69.

"I knew I needed a solid week," he said. "I had to play well, move up the rankings and work next year. It was more important to me than going open. Now that I have both, it's pretty special."

Former Rutgers player Christopher Gotterp in the sponsor-free field had 66 in fourth place tie with Scott Stallings (70) and 17 under.

The British Open will take place July 14-17 at the Old Course in St Andrews.

"I can't wait," Poston said. Says. "I've always wanted to play at any venue, but the first venue is St Andrews and 150, and I can't wait to get there and see what it looks like."
