John Oliver slammed former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s latest campaign video after it went in a rather unexpected direction. While discussing what he achieved for farmers during his presidency, Trump mentioned that he removed the “death tax” on farms.
“Trump announced he might get arrested next week,” Oliver said in Sunday’s (March 19) episode of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. “And if you are wondering how he is doing right now, don’t worry, because in a video that he released directed towards farmers, it seems like he’s doing great.”
In the video shared Friday (March 17) by Trump’s official 2024 campaign Twitter account, the politician said, “I made farmers happy and rich again. And they’re doing a fantastic job.”
He continued, “And you know what, some day it’ll become time for them to leave this beautiful earth and they’ll be able to leave their farm without taxes to their children. I got rid of the death tax on farms so that when you do pass away, on the assumption that you love your children, you can leave it to them and they won’t have to pay tax.
“But if you don’t love your children so much – and there are some people that don’t, and maybe deservedly so – it won’t matter,” Trump said. “Because frankly, you don’t have to leave them anything. Thank you very much, have fun.”

Oliver pointed out that the video, which was meant to inspire campaign support, veered down another path: “Do you know how much you have to hate your kids to get distracted by that thought in the middle of a political speech?” he said.
Then, as if he were giving a political speech, he said, “We should have pulled out troops from the region sooner. Speaking of regretting not pulling out sooner: Don Jr.”
“I mean, he’s still got it,” Oliver said. “He has still got it, and by ‘it,’ I mean, whatever it is that is so deeply wrong with his brain.”
This happened just one day after Trump claimed he will be arrested this week in connection to paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money after she came forward about their affair in 2016.
He could face charges for falsifying business records and, possibly, for breaking election law.
If Trump’s claims are true, he will become the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges.
