Jordan Peterson was brought to tears while discussing his connection to Don’t Worry Darling, becoming emotional after Piers Morgan asked him how he felt hearing director Olivia Wilde‘s comments calling him an incel hero. Peterson had to pause to collect himself multiple times on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he passionately defended “disaffected young men.”
The psychologist — who was used as inspiration for Chris Pine‘s Don’t Worry Darling character — was described by Wilde as an “insane man” and a “pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.”
When Morgan asked Peterson if he saw himself in Wilde’s description, he replied, “Sure. Why not? You know, people have been after me for a long time because I’ve been speaking to disaffected young men,” adding sarcastically, “Now, what a terrible thing to do that is!”
Peterson paused for a moment as he began to tear up, telling Morgan, “I thought the marginalized were supposed to have a voice.”
As Morgan pointed out the obvious, remarking that Peterson was becoming “emotional,” he replied through his tears, “It’s very difficult to understand how demoralized people are, and certainly many young men are in that category.”
He continued, “You get these casual insults, these incels — what does it mean? These men, they don’t know how to make themselves attractive to women, who are very picky, and good for them. Women, like, be picky. That’s your gift, man. Demand high standards from your men. Fair enough. But all these men who are alienated, it’s like, they’re lonesome and they don’t know what to do and everyone piles abuse on them.”
“I thought, ‘I would go see that movie, probably’ and perhaps I will,” Peterson said. “It didn’t really bother me… I said I hoped that if I had to be played by someone, [Chris Pine] is a very good looking man.”
Peterson had collected himself while joking about Pine, but he teared up again almost immediately after Morgan asked why he had become emotional during their discussion.
“It’s really something to see — constantly, how many people are dying for lack of an encouraging word and how easy it is to provide that if you’re careful. Give credit where credit is due, and to say, you’re a net force for good if you want to be.”
“I also hope that Chris Pine at least does the sartorial splendour of my very formal public wardrobe justice as he pillories me in the latest bit of propaganda disseminated by the woke, self-righteous bores and bullies who now dominate Hollywood, and who insist that the production of such tripe,” he said at the time.
