Katherine Heigl Struggles to Read Teleprompter Without Glasses on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’: “I Can’t See”

Stars, they’re just like us. While they may get to indulge in the glitz and glam of Hollywood, even some of our favorite celebrities aren’t spared from the most mundane of problems, poor eyesight included. Actress Katherine Heigl gave a relatable interview when she struggled to read from a teleprompter during today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

The Firefly Lane star, who joined Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews at the Drew’s News desk, kicked off today’s headlines, though warned the audience that she didn’t bring her glasses. We’ve all been there!

As she squinted her eyes toward the teleprompter, she slowly began to read, “Variety reports Emily Blunt says there is one role that you… can just… flat out… What? Keep! And that’s… the quote… strong female lead.”

Well, she tried her best.

The actress told the table that she needs papers at her desk in place of the teleprompter, and added that she “can’t see,” joking at her own expense that she “nailed it.” Barrymore replied, “I had the urge to get up in your ear.”

The talk show host went on to describe what Heigl meant to say, which is that Blunt feels “instantly bored” when a character description says “strong female lead.” Barrymore explained, “She knows you’re gonna spend the whole time acting tough and saying tough things.”

As for Heigl’s red flags for roles? Well, Life as We Know It and Knocked Up fans may be a little disappointed.

“I think now, not necessarily in my twenties, but now I kind of want to avoid the uptight, man-has-to-soften-her role,” she admitted. “And I did a lot of it and I enjoyed it and it was fun and we had a good time but now at 44, I’m like, ‘You’re not softening anything.'”

And sure enough, she’s been staying true to her word with her current gig as Tully Hart, a fiercely ambitious talk show host and journalist in Netflix’s Firefly Lane, which just debuted its second season today.

Speaking of the series, Heigl says she’s “so proud of it,” adding, “I think what I love about it is the message, is the story.”
