Keanu Reeves Honors Lance Reddick at ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ Premiere: “It F***ing Sucks He’s Not Here”

Just days after Lance Reddick died on Friday (March 17), Keanu Reeves and the cast and crew of John Wick: Chapter 4 honored their late co-star at the movie’s L.A. premiere on Monday (March 20) evening.

Attendees on the red carpet wore blue ribbons to remember the star, who died from natural causes at the age of 60. Reddick had been a part of the franchise since the very start, playing Charon in the previous three John Wick films, as well as the latest installment.

Reeves shared a touching tribute to his former co-star and friend.

“He was a beautiful person, a special artist [and] a man of grace and dignity, such a passion for his craft,” he said, per Deadline. “To have had the chance to work with him over the 10 years and four films is something very special to me.”

“It fucking sucks he’s not here,” he finished.

Along with his work as part of the John Wick franchise, Reddick was also known for his part on The Wire. He enjoyed a decades-long career in television, video games and film before his untimely passing last weej. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick and his two children.

Reddick spoke candidly about his working relationship with Reeves in an interview with Vulture in 2021. He recalled his first day filming for John Wick: Chapter 4, which just so happened to be Reeves’ birthday. Reeves visited the set that night just to see Reddick, he said.

“He’d never done this before but he wrote me a note thanking me for what I brought to the character in these movies. And he wanted to give the note to me,” Reddick said. “I’ll never forget it. I’m going to cry now.”

After Reddick’s death, John Wick director Chad Stahelski and Reeves shared a joint statement

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,” they shared. “He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 premieres in theaters March 24.
