New York Democrat Schumer called Williams "an American hero who embodies the best and best generations of our country."Williams, who died on Wednesdayat the age of 98, was awarded the Medal of Honor after participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima and demonstrating his "brave dedication to duty." .. At a Sunday memorial service in West Virginia from Williams, Senator Joe Manchin announced that he had received a phone call informing him that Williams would be mourned at the Rotunda of the US Capitol.
State Democrat Manchin praised Williams as a "non-giving back" person by riding a motorcycle each year to raise money for the Gold Star family.

Manchin joked how Williams would give him instructions on how to work, saying he wouldn't be able to answer Williams' phone.
"I miss him telling me how I'm supposed to vote and how I made a mistake when I didn't vote." Said Manchin.
