Luke Knox, College Footballer, Brother of Bills' Dawson Knox, Dies at 22

Florida International University football player Luke Knox died at the age of 22, theschool announced Thursday. Knox is the younger brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox. 

"Sadly saddened by the sudden passing of FIU football program member Luke Knox," tweeted the university athletics department. "My thoughts and prayers go out to Luke's family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

Knox transferred After playing for the University of Mississippi from 2018 to 2021, he moved to FIU in the offseason. Mike Macintyre, who coached his Knox at Ole Miss and his FIU, fondly recalled his player in a statement. 

"Words cannot express the heartfelt grief we feel at the passing of our teammate and friend Luke Knox. Hmm...his sincere love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember," he wrote in a statement shared on Twitter. "He had a special way of making people feel safe and confident. Luke's family means a lot to me and will always be in my heart and prayers during this difficult time."

At a press conference Thursday, Bills coach Sean McDermott offered his condolences to the Knox family. My heart goes out to Dawson and his family," McDermott said. "We are with him and supporting him and his family. We woke up this morning to the tragic news. We love him and support him." But this morning, it's just bad news."

According to Knox Ole Miss, he was a high school football star from Tennessee and was named to the all-state first team by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association . I played both backer and tight end. 

His cause of death has not been revealed.
