A 17-year-old injured in a shark attack off the coast of Florida
A man injured his leg withInjured officials saidmay have been attacked by sharks off Long Island in New York early Thursday afternoon.
According to Nassau County Police, a 57-year-old boy was swimming in Wantagh's Jones Beach when the injury occurred around 1 pm.
He suffered a laceration on his right leg. Police said in a news release that the corresponding medical personnel had determined that it could be due to "possibly bitten by a shark."
Police have announced that they will step up patrols on all beaches in Nassau County prior to the weekend of July 4.
This isbecause a girl was seriously injured in a shark attack on a beach in Florida on Thursday. At the time, the girl was scalloping in water about five feet deep, and her family jumped in and beat the shark, officials said. She is expected to survive.
Last week, a 62-year-old surferwas also seriously injured in a shark attack on a beach in California. He is also expected to survive.
