Mark Wahlberg is willing to make a sacrifice for the sake of his hatred toward the Yankees.
The 51-year-old actor made his way to the Astros’ Opening Day game against the White Sox, where he claimed he’d give his thumb to Jose Altuve, who broke his during the World Baseball Classic.
“It’s going to have something to do with my favorite Yankee killers,” Wahlberg responded when asked how he’ll give the traditional “Play Ball!” call before Thursday’s game.
“I am also willing to donate either one of my thumbs to Jose Altuve for sure … I am a big fan.”
Although the Boston native is a lifelong Red Sox fan, he has been rooting for the Astros as of late, especially last postseason when they swept the Yankees in the ALCS.
In addition to Altuve, Wahlberg also had kind words for Astros third baseman Alex Bregman.
“He’s an amazing guy and he’s also my favorite Yankee killer of all time,” Wahlberg told reporters pregame. “I’ve been a big, big fan of his for a while. We just became close friends. I’m just here to support him. I was rooting for him all the way through, of course, when my Red Sox were out, you know, I was right on the Astros bandwagon. Of course, once they swept the Yankees, he became my favorite Yankee killer.”
“I am an Astros fan,” Wahlberg continued. “Listen, I live in Nevada now, I’m a fan of real talent. And, you know what, they have an amazing team, and he has amazing talent, but he’s also an amazing person, so I’m a big fan of his, especially.”
As for Altuve, Wahlberg’s kind gesture won’t be able to do him any good.
He is out indefinitely and will most likely miss at least two months.
