This is no nostalgia nightmare.
McDonald’s announced that it will be serving Happy Meals in its iconic plastic Halloween buckets for the first time in years.
The Halloween Happy Meal is set to return to the fast food joint’s menu at restaurants nationwide for the spooky season beginning on Oct. 18 until the end of the month while supplies last, McDonald’s announced on Thursday.
Instead of the typical cardboard box, customers will get their Happy Meals in one of three buckets with characters on them — McPunk’n, McGoblin or McBoo — and can reuse the container to stash their sweet spoils from trick-or-treating.
The characters appear on orange, green and white buckets, respectively.
The buckets were first introduced by the fast food giant in 1986 and have been an on-and-off staple for McDonald’s until they were discontinued in 2016, according to The Takeout. This year’s buckets closely resemble the characters featured in 1989.
“Though not exact replicas, this year’s Halloween pails are inspired by the OG bucket designs from the 1980s, featuring the beloved McBoo, McPunk’n and McGoblin characters on the outside of the pail – characters our fans have come to know and love,” McDonald’s said in an email to The Takeout.
The announcement appears to be McDonald’s latest move that appears to cater more towards adults than children, after the company announced a day earlier that it would be introducing adult Happy Meals.
Dubbed the Cactus Plant Flea Market Box — the adult Happy Meal is a collaboration with streetwear brand Cactus Plant Flea Market, and allows customers to choose both their meal and toy option.
The meal consists of either a Big Mac or 10-piece chicken nuggets, fries and drink, plus one of four collectible toys: Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie or Cactus Buddy.
