Nancy Meyers Drops Details About Her New $130M Rom-Com ‘Paris Paramount’

Nancy Meyers is taking control of the narrative surrounding her upcoming rom-com. The famed filmmaker shared a few details about the title and plot of the project, which has allegedly been shelved at Netflix because of budgeting concerns.

Meyers credited her inspiration to German-American filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch, known for Trouble in Paradise, The Shop Around the Corner and Heaven Can Wait.

“There’s been a lot written about my new film. Here’s one thing I can easily clear up,” Meyers teased on Instagram yesterday (March 19).

Referring to the title, Paris Paramount, Meyers continued, “It’s from a quote by the brilliant and elegant comedy director (dare I say creator of the romantic comedy) Ernst Lubitsch.”

The director continued to drop details about the rom-com’s plot, writing, “The movie is about a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do.”

Meyers, who made her directorial debut in 1998 with The Parent Trap, added, “As always, Lubitsch said it best.” Along with her heartfelt caption, the director shared a quote from Lubitsch reading, “I’ve been to Paris France and I’ve been to Paris, Paramount. Frankly, I prefer Paris, Paramount.”

Celebrity chef Ina Garten commented on the post, writing, “Yay!!! Can’t wait!” and actor Danny Pellegrino added, “Will be watching wherever it ends up!” in reference to the alleged war between Meyers and Netflix, which saw the movie being shelved at the streamer.

Meyers sought $150 million to create the movie; however, it has been reported that Netflix parted ways with her after budgeting disagreements; the streamer only allocated $130 million for the project. The rom-com was reportedly set to star Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender and, as of now, is being shopped around to other potential buyers.

Deadline reported last week that Warner Bros. is eyeing the project, but is expected to offer an even lower budget.

Some of Meyers’ popular works include Private Benjamin, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay, Father of the Bride, What Women Want, The Holiday and It’s Complicated.
