The day has arrived: Avatar: The Way of Water is now streaming, which means that at-home audiences can finally experience the Avatar sequel exactly as James Cameron never intended. But you know what? That’s fine, because even if you didn’t see the film in theaters, it’s still worth checking out. Also out this week is the Hugh Jackman-Anthony Hopkins film The Son, which is a prequel of sorts to the 2020 film The Father, which earned Hopkins a second Oscar for Best Actor. In the film, Jackman plays Peter, the adult son of Hopkins’ character, Anthony, who struggles to be a better parent to his own son. than his father was.
And if feel-good comedy is what you’re looking for, try Champions, the new film starring Woody Harrelson as the coach of a basketball team for players with intellectual disabilities. The underdog sports comedy also features Caitlin Olson, Ernie Hudson, and Cheech Marin in supporting roles and was produced by Bobby Farrelly.

Avatar: The Way Of Water has been over a decade in the making, and the follow-up to James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar reunites original cast members like Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Zoe Saldana, while adding new cast like Kate Winslet and Edie Falco to the mix. After three months in theaters, the film – which won the Oscar this year for Best Visual Effects – is now available to stream at home.
While most movies typically spend over a month in theaters before hitting streaming, Creed III showed up earlier than expected to our TV screens, hitting the on demand platforms today. That means that you can check out Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, boxer, protegé of Rocky Balboa, and the estranged son of Apollo Creed, right now. Jordan also directed this latest installment of the Creed franchise, which co-stars Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, and Florian Munteanu.
Florian Zeller’s 2020 film The Father starred Olivia Colman as Anne, a woman struggling to care for her father, Anthony, played by Anthony Hopkins, as he struggled with dementia. In The Son, The Father-verse expands to include Hugh Jackman as Peter, Anthony’s son, who is now trying to make peace with his poor relationship with his dad as he tries to be there for his teenage son Nicholas (Zen McGrath) who is suicidal and dealing with depression. Will the generational trauma ever be healed? Stay tuned for The Grandson in 2025. (Just kidding.)
