According to the FDNY, the fire broke out at 5:40 am in a three-story building on Union Avenue near Meeker Avenue in Williamsburg, with a deli on the ground floor. ..
The fire rapidly intensified and reached five alerts (44 units, including 198 FDNY members) by about 7:10 am, fire officials said.
The flames injured nine people (three civilians and six firefighters in total).
Two firefighters were taken to the Weill Cornell Medical Center and the other two went to NYU Langone Health—Cobble Hill.
The remaining patients were treated on-site but refused to be transferred to the hospital, officials said.
The condition of the injured is unknown.
The fire was extinguished just before 8 am and the cause is under investigation.
