'One in two million' blue lobster caught by father and son in Maine

14-year-old Megan LaPlante and her father caught lobsters south of Portland, Maine

Luke Land, 36, has been fishing since he was 16 and his father, Mark, has been fishing for over 40 years. But they have never caught anything comparable to what they did off the coast of Maine last week. 

The two said he caught a rare deep blue lobster in Casco Bay on August 11. He told the local Portland Press Herald that he had been caught. Luke Rand said it was a legal-sized and healthy looking man. 

"I've never pulled this color, and I've never seen it thrown away," Rand told the outlet, adding that when he showed it to dealers, people took pictures of it. I said I couldn't help but take it. "It's not something you see every day."

A father and son plan to tank lobster at the family's favorite Portland restaurant, Becky's Diner. doing. 

This is not the first blue lobster spotted in Casco Bay. According to Smithsonian Magazine,last year lobster fishermen found a female lobster with a shell resembling blue cotton candy.  

In 2014, 14-year-old Megan LaPlante and her father caught blue lobsters south of Portland, Maine.

According to the New England Aquarium, wild blue lobsters are extremely rare1 in 2 million found. It is home to lobsters, as well as lobsters of different colors such as yellow, orange and even calico. 

According to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, most lobsters are greenish-brown, but blue, yellow, and white appearing "not very often." , or even a combination of colors. According to the Institute, all lobsters except white lobster turn red when cooked.

Gloucester, MA Well, last year another lobster fisherman found a blue lobster. CBS Boston reported that a man put the lobster on a fishing boat, photographed it, and then released it into the ocean.
