(CNN)On Friday, a massive shipyard in Matapoisett, Massachusetts, filled the skies above Nosuri Bay with black smoke and dozens of ships Damaged boats and cars. CNN affiliate WCVB reported, as well as several structures.
"There was an enormous amount of fire in the main building and surrounding buildings," Matapoiset Fire Chief Andrew Murray said at a press conference held near the boatyard. .
Murray said at least four people were injured in the fire, including three firefighters. Over 100 firefighters responded to the fire. Fireboats were also dispatched to pump up the seawater, he added.
Murray said wind contributed to the fire. "The wind definitely pushed the fire up," said Murray. In total he added that five buildings were affected by the fire.
Tory Gibb told CNN he was doing construction work at a nearby house when he heard a loud explosion. He walked over to where he saw a plume of black smoke and discovered flames tearing through the boatyard. , showing how the building is set on fire. He said he saw at least 15 to 20 cars on fire.
Gibb said the flames grew exponentially within 10 minutes he said. Paramedics arrived shortly after, he said. Another video shot by Gibb from a distance shows the house burning and heavy black smoke billowing into the air. Gibb said he can feel the heat of the fire from about 300 feet away.
Rosa Giberti saw the fire from 2,000 feet above. Her father was giving her flight training when they spotted the smoke.
A video she shot shows several boats and structures on fire. Within 15 minutes, she said, the entire garden was ablaze. According to her video, the smoke was very thick and cast shadows on the coast.
The incident is under investigation.
