A passenger train that collided with a dump truck derailed near Kansas City, Missouri

(CNN)According to a statement from the passenger railroad company, several people were injured when the Amtrak train derailed in Missouri.

The company said the train collided with a dump truck at a public intersection near the city of Mendon at around 1:42 pm. CT.

"There are about 243 passengers and early reports of injuries," said a company official. "The local government is currently helping customers and has deployed Amtrak resources to help."

Chillicothe Fire Chief Eric Reeter confirms the derailment and authorities need help He said his department was waiting in case he did.

No other details were available.

Mendon is about 100 miles northeast of Kansas City. The train was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago.
