Robert E. CrimoIII Detained as a person of interest related to parade shooting at Highland Park

Robert E. Climo III was detained near Lake Forest, Illinois, officials said in a brief press conference shortly before 8 pm. ET.

Authorities said Klimo was discovered by North Chicago police officers who were about to initiate a traffic outage. Kurimo then fled and led an officer with a short chase before stopping at Lake Forest, Illinois.

He was successfully detained and taken to the Highland Park Police Station. 

When asked, authorities said they called him an "interested person" while investigating and connecting to the scene.

Reinan Lorey, 19, when he heard a gunshot on Monday, Highland Park, Illinois. I was in his apartment overlooking the parade route. Laurie said he didn't realize it was a gunshot at first, but thought it was the sound of fireworks.  

"I saw everyone looking confused and then running in horror," he told CNN. "Because I'm a photographer and videographer, my instinct was to record." 

In the video recorded by Lowrey, gunshots were heard immediately and people fled the scene. You can see. The video continues to gunshot (about 20 seconds in a one minute video) and you can hear people screaming.

After finishing the recording, Raleigh went downstairs and, along with his other neighbors, said he would put people in the lobby of the building to ensure safety.

"I have never experienced this," he said. "You wouldn't expect this to happen."

He said police later searched the building of his apartment and shared the video he recorded with the authorities. ..

Kurimo has not been nominated as a suspect, and CNN is seeking more information on why police named him a person of interest.

At least6 people were killed and 20 were injured in the July 4 Independence Day shootings in Illinois. Parade at Highland Park. This is at least the 308th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to data compiled by the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive, which is tracking such incidents.

Highland Park police are leading the investigation, and Lake County's major criminal task force is working directly with the FBI, task force spokesman Criscoveli said at a news conference. The suspects are still numerous and are considered armed and dangerous.

As long as Manhunt continues, what we know is:

  • Location:Highland Park, Illinois, located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Chicago. According to police, the shooting started about 20 minutes after the parade started.
  • Suspicious shooter:Cmdr. Case commander Chris O'Neill said on Monday that the suspect was a white man between the ages of 18 and 20 with long black hair, a small physique, and wearing a white or blue T-shirt.   • Shooting:Sgt. Christopher Koveli, Lake County's Major Crime Task Force, said police had recovered a "powerful rifle" on the roof of a company. Police say they believe the shooter was on the roof when he fired. Coveli said it was likely that he had accessed the roof from an alley ladder. Authorities have not disclosed exactly where the building is.
