Prince Harry: royal stylist?
In Netflix’s highly anticipated “Harry & Meghan” docuseries, which dropped its first three episodes today, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle discussed the highs and lows of their relationship — and it turns out, getting dressed for royal events came with quite a few challenges.
Discussing the first time she appeared in public to greet crowds with her then-fiancé, the Duchess of Sussex admitted in the second episode, “I never saw pictures or videos of a walkabout. It’s like, ‘what’s a walkabout?'”
While the duke shared that he prepped her on what to expect based on his own experiences through the years, he added, “The piece I really didn’t know about was the style, right? What a woman needed to … how they needed to dress.”
Although Prince Harry admitted he wasn’t well-versed in royal fashion, Markle revealed the groom-to-be was quite hands-on when it came to getting ready for appearances.
“You’d be there with the scissors like, as we’re getting ready, like ‘we have five minutes!'” the former “Suits” actress said, describing the chaos of whipping outfits together.
“I’d be like, ‘Should I wear these earrings? Are these a British designer? I just ordered these online, is this good? Wait my tag’s still on, cut the tag!'” she added.

“And then the zipper,” Prince Harry interjected, gasping in exaggerated confusion, finally adding, “The whole thing was just ridiculous.”
“We just sort of went with it,” Meghan concluded.
Despite describing her princess preparation (or lack thereof) as a “baptism by fire” later in the episode, the Mackage coat, camel skirt and black turtleneck she wore for her first walkabout was a hit — with two women in the crowd interviewed as saying “she was dressed just on point” and “looked amazing.”
As for other fashion revelations in the Netflix doc, Markle shared that she “rarely wore color” while living in the UK as not to upstage other members of the family.
“There was thought in that,” the mom of two said. “To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same color as Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth II] if there’s a group event. But then you also should never be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family.”
Her solution was to think, “‘Well, what’s a color that they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White?’” and come up with a mostly neutral wardrobe, instead.
