‘Rick and Morty’: Jack Black and Daniel Radcliffe’s Casting Is More Than Just Another Cameo

Rick and Morty has never been a stranger to including big names in its very silly episodes. But “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort” takes things to the next level by including one one but two cameos from A-list stars. Jack Black and Daniel Radcliffe, welcome to the fam.

As cool as it is to hear these actors’ voices, it’s Black and Radcliffe’s respective histories with Rick and Morty that make these casting choices that much more interesting. Here’s everything you need to know about who these stars play in Rick and Morty Season 6, Episode 9.

Who Does Jack Black Play in Rick and Morty Season 6, Episode 9?

If one of your most diabolical characters is being played by Jack Black, you know you’re in for a good time. In “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort”, Black plays the leader of the Viscounts of Venus, one of the many groups scrambling for control of the solar system. He’s the last one to hold the all-powerful scepter before Rick snatches it from his hands using a portal. He also oversees the ceremony of King Morty cutting off his penis.

The legendary comedy actor has an interesting connection to one of Rick and Morty’s creators. Justin Roiland first met Jack Black during a taping of Mr. Show. At the time, he was just a fan of Black’s work, but he would come to collaborate with Black thanks to Dan Harmon’s Channel 101. Years later, Black starred in one of Justin Roiland’s early animated shows. Though it was never picked up, it was the first series that Roiland ever sold. Roiland has credited that early success to Black, and to this day, Roiland has remained grateful to Jack Black for believing in him during the early days of his career.

Who Does Daniel Radcliffe Play in Rick and Morty Season 6, Episode 9?

As for Daniel Radcliffe, he plays the larger Knight of the Sun. He’s the one who explains the knights’ clearly wrong religion.

Funnily enough, this casting is that Radcliffe’s role is responsible for one of the all-time best callbacks in Rick and Morty history. After all three of the fake dicks Rick makes are discovered, Morty realizes that he has to sacrifice his penis to the sun. But at the last minute, Rick tell him to run before dramatically throwing both of their bodies into the sun.

“Such shame he felt for what he’d done to our society, sacrificing his dick wasn’t enough. He gave his entire body and wizard servant as well,” Radcliffe’s knight says as he tells this story. “And after a while their sun-proof bones floated up to the top. We even checked with a royal ladle to ensure it was real sun, not just them hiding beneath in a vat of fake sun.”

That’s right. “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort” ends on “The Vat of Acid Episode” joke. Truly, this show is art.

Like Black, this isn’t Radcliffe’s only connection to this wild series. Radcliffe has long been an outspoken fan of the series. Because of this, when the team first decided to make three live-action Rick and Morty shorts, Radcliffe was at the top of the list to play Morty. Wisely, Radcliffe turned down the role, which instead went to the more age-appropriate Jaden Martell.
