Sapphire 60 remembers Coolio’s last performance at the club

Upper East Side NYC jiggle joint Sapphire 60 will remember Coolio as “the most humble guy” to ever embrace its stage.

“Coolio was the most humble guy. Usually, we send a car [for performers]. We have security lined up. We prepare for everything to make sure the acts we hire have a great experience,” owner Michael Wright told Page Six.

But, whenever they hired Coolio to perform, “he just showed up and jumped out of a NYC taxi,” Wright recalled.

The “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper, who died unexpectedly on Wednesday, first performed at the club last December. The club’s live talent curator, Valentina Nicolette told us that the rapper even showed up bearing gifts.

Coolio last performed at Sapphire 60 this past May.

“He made shirts [for the owners and some of the staff] with our names, just for us. He was just that type of guy,” she said.

Coolio even got into the stripper spirit by dancing on the pole during his last performance at the club in May.

“Seeing him dancing hanging upside [down] on the pole just showed how much fun he had with his craft,” Sapphire’s Director of Promotions Richie Romero, who recorded the performance, told us.

“He really loved to give a great performance for the fans and he truly had fun doing it… He was so down to earth,” Romero said.

Nicolette revealed Coolio was going to be the club’s “first resident artist in rotation” and she was looking forward to having him “come back to perform before year’s end in December, like he did last year.”

“He really was the best. I will miss him terribly,” she concluded.
