St. Patrick's Day in New York is under strict vigilance, but there are no abortion protests yet

On Saturday morning, more than 20 police officers were guarding St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Midtown icon remained quiet as a worshiper and prayed uninterrupted — a breakthrough that protected women's right to abortion for nearly 50 years, despite protests. After the Roe v. Wade decision was overturned, it was ready in other parts of the Big Apple.

Around 9:30 am, at least five NYPD vans and SUVs were found outside the cathedral. The barricade is Madison Avenue, E. 50thStreet and E.51stSurrounded the church along the street. 5thOnly the front door of the avenue remained open.

Church security forces refused to guide the media inside, even in public.

A woman who left the 8 am service said she smiled and thumbs up when asked about her decision.

"I don't think it should be a federal decision what we do with our bodies," the woman said. "I think we need to be at the state level so that people can vote and make a difference." The High Court's decision does not outlaw abortion, but it does transfer control to the state government.

Cardinal Timothy Doran had no plans to speak to the public on St. Patrick's Saturday, but shortly after the ruling was announced,told the Bishops of New York that the court's " Just make a decision and you can save the myriad of innocent children waiting to be born. "
