A woman was repeatedly punched in the face on a Brooklyn subway Monday after a stranger sneered, "I hate Mexicans." police said.
The 41-year-old victim boarded her Q-her train northbound at her Newkirk Avenue station at about 8:45 a.m. and was talking on the phone when a woman sat next to her. sat in
Without warning, the attacker stood up and punched the victim several times in the face, according to police.
"Why did you hit me?" asked the victim.
"I hate Mexicans," replied the woman.
When the train arrived at her Seventh Avenue station, the victim took pictures of the assailant on her cell phone, police said. The victim suffered bruising, swelling, and a cut lip, but refused to seek medical attention.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Division is investigating.
Officers described the attacker as a dark complexioned woman about 5 feet 6 inches tall. She weighs about 120 pounds. She had her long black hair pulled back in a ponytail and a tattoo of Roman numerals on her left arm.
She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a graphic design on the front, blue jeans, black crocs, and carrying a handbag.
