Stream or Skip: Netflix's 'Kleo', East German Freelance Agent Takes Revenge on Falling Berlin Wall

Why aren't there more shows like

 Kleo? A new German series on Netflix. This is an espionage revenge thriller, with a skilled protagonist seeking to harm those who have made their mistakes. That's basically it. But how you get past that simple premise is the key to whether it works.

KLEO: Stream or skip.

Opening Shot: "This is a true story. This never happened," before the opening shot in an alley not far from the Berlin Wall. , you will see confusing graphics. "East Berlin, 1987".

Summary: Cleo Straub (Jera Hase) is an unlicensed agent of the Stasi, the East German Ministry of State Security. She puts on her wig and dress under the supervision of Andy Wolff (Vladimir Burlakov) and her whimsical Uwe Mitich (Vincent Redetzki), making her the first to go to the Big Eden club in West Berlin. to see. There, she spends little time attracting and then eliminating her targets with her snorted, contaminated blows in the men's restroom. Another investigator obtains the key to a locker containing a mysterious red suitcase

and found Cleo coming out of the bathroom. Target is dead on her floor and remembers her from when she came to the bar and he hit her, he draws a rough sketch of the murderous cop laughing. However, he claims she is the killer, even though she is not found and the coroner determines the man died of an accidental overdose. Despite the warnings, Wolfe and Cleo are dating and they are both happy that she is pregnant. However, when a sketch made from Sven's sighting reaches her Stasi superiors, a chain of events takes place and she is sentenced to life imprisonment for treason. Everyone she knows in her Stasi is against her, as is her grandfather Otto (Jürgen Heinrich), the commander-in-chief of the army, who raised her after her parents died. I testify that She loses her baby in a prison fight.

But things change in Berlin while she is in prison. The wall will fall and all political prisoners will be released. It's 1990 and East Berlin is starting to change. It's revenge on those who betrayed him, including his grandfather. Sven goes through the now irrelevant files of East German political prisoners, spies on Cleo's mugshot, and remembers her from the incident in Big Her Eden. Meanwhile, suitcases are circulating among Chilean people and everywhere.

What reminds you? Cleo has worked with her series of Soviet-era spies such as Americans and Revenge

. It reminds me of the Revenge series combined. }

Our opinion:Cleo takes his character from Europe to South America, pursuing both stylish and sophisticated style. The red suitcase and the people who sent her to prison. Created by Hanno Hackfort, Richard Kropf, and Bob Konrad, the show features many set pieces, creative ways to kill people, and Haase of her early 90s fashion with different wigs. Spy Her is nothing but a thriller.

We tend to want more than just smoothness and action from a show, but we don't expect that from Cleo. To be something other than what it is. I'm not trying to dig too deep, nor am I trying to explain post-communist Germany. It's about Stasi spies hunting down people and likely killing them because they kicked her out and essentially killed her dreams of a normal life with Wolf.

Haase is great as Cleo. Because she is angry that she was sent off innocently and overjoyed at her pregnancy by a die-hard killer. It's fun to watch them move around in different disguises to get to the person they're looking for, and it's fun to think about how the contents of the red suitcase affect them.

Because Schaad is an overworked cop who thinks he's getting along with the women even though he has a family to go home to. But once he realizes that the woman he saw at that club in 1987 was no mirage, his pursuit of Cleo becomes the central conflict of the entire first season. However, it should be an interesting combination.

Sex and Skins: Wolf and Cleo are seen before and after intercourse, both strategically concealed.

Farewell shot: Suitcases are exchanged on the Chilean bridge. “Cleo is out and causing trouble,” the man handing over the case tells the recipient. ``Don't let her touch it.''

Sleeper Star: Vincent Redetzki harassed him, including the police who knocked on the car he and Wolfe were in. I hope we see more of it as Uwe, who seems to explode to those who doubt it. They were waiting for Cleo.

The most pilot-like line: Cleo goes back to his old apartment to get a gun and meets sloppy Tilo (Julius Feldmeier). She held the gun to his head and all he could say was, "It's like a third eye my friend Klaus pedal-drilled his forehead." How super tall is he at that point?

Our call: Stream it. Cleo is a fast-paced spy who aspires to be nothing more than a thriller.
