Bloomberg — Chief US Best Court security officials have called for Maryland authorities to enforce a law banning picketing in front of private homes, saying "threatening activity" has increased in recent weeks.

Judge John Roberts and Judge Brett Kavanaugh live in Montgomery County outside Washington, D.C. Demonstrators have protested in both homes since the draft ruling thatfinally overturned theRoe v. Wade case. It had legalized abortion nationwide, but it leaked in May.

Court Marshal Gale A. Curly wrote to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich on Friday, with state and county law being personal. He said he was banning such protests in front of his house.

"For weeks, a large number of protesters chanting slogans, using loudspeakers, and drumming picketed the house of a judge in Maryland," Curly wrote to Hogan.

"For example, earlier this week, 75 protesters loudly picketat a judge's house in Maryland for 20-30 minutes in the evening, and then another judge's house. Was picketed for 30 minutes. The crowd grew to 100 and finally returned to the first home of justice, "she wrote. "This is exactly the kind of act prohibited by Maryland and Montgomery County law."

Curly, responsible for investigating the draft opinion leak, , Did not mention the judge's name in the letter. The Hogan and Erlich offices did not return a request for comment.

In mid-May, the Justice Departmentprovided security servicesto the Supreme Court and its judges due to heightened protests against the leaked opinion. Last month, a Californian man was arrested in a pistol outside Cabano's house and was charged with attempted murder after threatening to kill him.
