‘The Holiday’ Director Nancy Meyers Shuts Down Rumors of a Sequel: “Sorry but It’s Not True”

It looks like a sequel for The Holiday isn’t coming down the chimney with Santa this winter. Just one day it was reported that a second movie was in the works, director Nancy Meyers and actress Kate Winslet shut down the rumors.

Meyers, who directed the 2006 romantic comedy, posted a screenshot of an article containing the (apparently false) news along with the caption, “So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true.”

Many took to the comments section to express their disappointment, including Katie Couric, who simply posted a heartbroken emoji, as well as the official Instagram account for The Academy, which left a series of sobbing faces.

Other stars like One Tree Hill alum Danneel Ackles wrote, “NOOOOOOO! Please do it!!!” while singer-songwriter Morgane Stapleton commented, “Nancy!!! Give the people what they want!!!”

Winslet, who starred in the movie as columnist Iris Simpkins, also shut down rumors of a potential second film.

“I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it,” she told People. “I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.”

The Holiday follows two women, played by Winslet and Cameron Diaz, who decide to swap homes around the holidays after finding themselves in trouble romantically. While staying in one another’s separate countries, they end up falling in love with local men.

News of the sequel first made rounds when The Daily Mail reported that the original cast members, which aside from Winslet and Diaz also include Jack Black and Jude Law, were on board with a second movie, which was reportedly supposed to follow where the OG characters are now, 16 years later.

However, it looks like we’ll be holding out hope for a future sequel for a little bit longer. Then again, perhaps some masterpieces are better left untouched.
