As the reloaded Jets approach Week 1, the roster locks into the toughest cuts and deepest positions

The Jets are gearing up for training camp. They are in his fourth week of practice and his second preseason game is against the Falcons on Monday.

Sounds like a good time to predict a 53-man roster.

The good news for the Jets is that this year's exercise has been tougher than any recent year I can remember. There have been a few years where I had my first run with a 53-man roster and only came up with 35 players. There have been some difficult decisions this year.

Here are my expectations and thoughts on each position:

QB (3): Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White

New York Jets quarterback Joe Flacco #19 during the first half when the New York Jets played the Miami Dolphins, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
Robert Sabo

This is Wilson's Injuredon Friday. There was a question as to whether the Jets would carry three quarterbacks on the roster... now they have to.

RB (4): Michael Carter, Bryce Hall, Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson

Some good moments in training camp. This position is too crowded. As long as there are no injuries in the top four, he will go down in history. Undrafted rookie Zonovan Knight has a very strong camp and should land on the practice squad.

WR (5): Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith

New York Jets' Denzel Mims participates in a drill at the NFL football team's training facility in Florham Park, N.J., Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

The first four are locks. Denzel has an edge over Mims because Smith plays on a special team. The Jets are trying to get Mims on the special team, but I'm skeptical that that will actually happen, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mims were traded before his cut in the Finals. Calvin Jackson was impressive. He needs a spot on the practice team.

TE (4): C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert, Kenny Yeboah

The top three are definitely new gainers to join the team. I favor Yeboah over Trevon Wesco because they have a special team. Ruckert can also be used as his Wesco replacement and as a major blocking his tight his end.

OL (9): Duane Brown, Alija Vera-Tucker, Laken Tomlinson, Conor McGovern, George Fant, Dan Feeney, Max Mitchell, Connor McDermott, Edgar Chuma

{62 I think there's one too many here, but I think Mitchell will be inactive in every game. But I don't think he's ready for a fourth-round pick. Feeney can play guard and center. McDermott can tackle and guard. Edgar may be a freak, but the Jets will stick with him as insurance against tackles.

DL (10): Quinen Williams, Carl Lawson, John Franklin Myers, Sheldon Rankins, Solomon Thomas, Jermaine Johnson, Jacob Martin, Michael Clemons, Bryce Huff, Nathan Shepard

This is the most difficult position on the team to grasp. The Jets have great depth in their defensive line. That leads to some good players getting cut. Veteran Vinnie Curry has been battling a hamstring injury at camp and could be amputated. Coaches love Huff, but he could get into the numbers game.

LB (5): C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams, Kwon Alexander, Jamien Sherwood, Hamsah Nasirildeen

Starters are fixed, but depth here I doubt the position. Adding Alexander certainly helped. He starts with base defense. Sherwood and Nasirideen are in their second season as safety-turned-linebackers. They are also special team contributors. Marcel Harris played well before Alexander arrived and Delshawn Phillips is a favorite of the coaching staff, but I think both will be cut.

CB (6): Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reid, Michael Carter II, Bryce Hall, Brandin Echols, Justin Hardy

This position has been significantly upgraded this off-season, and the trickle-down effect is obvious. or Hall and Echols are going from starters to backups, and last year's backup players will land on the practice team. Hardy is the ace of special teams. Javelin Guidry is a bubble to me. He could be Carter's backup, but I couldn't push him.

S (4): Jordan Whitehead, LaMarcus Joyner, Jason Pinnock, Ashtin Davis

Only Whitehead is certain here. Joyner has an underwhelming camp and one has to wonder if the Jets would consider replacing him.Pinnock is playing well and feels like a rising player. Davis, like several members of the 2020 draft class, is hanging by a thread. Elijah Riley and Will Parks had some good moments, but I doubt the Jets are keeping too many safes.

ST (3): Greg Zuerlein ( Kicker), Braden Mann (punter), Thomas Hennessy (long snapper)

The only problem here is the kicker. Eddie Pinheiro is currently dealing with a tight back, which gives Zuerlein the edge. It was good competition, but I would go with the tulle line.

Welcome back

Jets’ Carl Lawson speaks with the media after practice at training camp in Florham Park, N.J.

Friday After the Jets-Eagles game that night, it was important for those of us covering the Jets as we were back in the locker room for the first time since the end of the 2019 season. I know fans don't really care what the media goes through, but it was significant that he was in the locker room after two years due to COVID restrictions.

From what I saw in his locker room on the drive home from Philadelphia, I was convinced Wilson's injuries were not serious. The players were fine, the music was blaring, the guys were joking. I was in the locker room after a player lost a season, and this certainly wasn't the case.

These are the kind of insights that would be lost without access to the locker room. . It was difficult to get a feel for the team. In his 2020, when the Jets started 0-13, people asked about the team atmosphere. I thought it was bad, but it wasn't the same as going out and talking to a man. We couldn't see up close if they gave up, so it was hard to tell if they packed it for the season.

That's what Friday should be welcome That's why I chose I'm looking forward to the regular season when I can go to the locker room on weekdays and talk to the players.

Stat's so

Joe Flacco says Zach Wilson is recovering from knee surgery. They are scheduled to start the season opener against the Ravens, who are in the middle of the season. Here's how Flacco has performed in the last three seasons since leaving the Ravens. He has played for the Broncos (2019) and Jets (2020, 2021), and as a starter he has a 2-11 record:
