The special meaning behind Meghan Markle’s outfit at Indianapolis event

Meghan Markle is glowing in green.

The Duchess of Sussex attended an event for the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana last night in a stunning forest green midi dress with purple heels — and her outfit had a touching hidden meaning.

Wearing Giorgio Armani’s “Twisted Keyhole-Front Jersey Midi Dress” ($1,795), the 41-year-old took part in a discussion titled “The Power of Women: An Evening with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex” at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.

She sent a message with her outfit, pairing her figure-hugging long-sleeved dress with bright purple suede pumps to contrast with her green frock — colors that combined, symbolize the feminist movement.

Green, which represents hope, and purple, which is known as the color of International Women’s Day, have been combined with white to represent the women’s movement since 1908, according to the International Women’s Day website.

Markle — who experienced “very real” threats in the UK, according to a new interview — gave a further nod to the theme of the event with the Logan Hollowell emerald pendant ($3,450) she previously wore with a jumpsuit while shopping with a friend last month.

As well as representing one of the colors of women’s rights, the stone “benefits intellect, communication, decision making, and promotes truthfulness and honesty, seeing past the superficial,” according to the brand.

Her overall look is reminiscent of the green Emilia Wickstead cape dress the duchess wore to 2020’s Commonwealth Day service, her last official appearance before leaving the UK and moving to California.

During last night’s benefit — with tickets priced at $5,000 a table — Markle spoke with Indiana Rabbi Sandy Sasso, who became the first woman rabbi ordained by the Reconstructionist movement.

“Women’s Fund is proud to welcome Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, to Indianapolis,” the organization wrote on its website. “The Duchess is a mother, feminist and champion of human rights. She is a lifelong advocate for women and girls, a constant thread she weaves through humanitarian and business ventures.”

While Markle’s stateside public appearances are few and far between these days, we’ll get another royal fashion moment when she joins Prince Harry on December 6 at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation Ripple of Hope Gala in New York.
