U.S. Postal Service Raises Postage Rates for the Holiday Season

Gifts are getting more expensive this holiday season.

The U.S. Postal Service has announced plans to temporarily raise postage rates this year from Oct. 2 to Jan. 22, 2023, according to a release. .

"The Postal Service offers the lowest postage rates in the industrialized world and continues to provide significant value in shipping," the statement read. “These one-off rates will keep the USPS competitive while providing agencies with revenue to cover additional costs in anticipation of peak season volumes.”

It depends on package size, shipping distance and parcel type.

For example, a retail expedited package weighing up to 10 pounds traveling to Zone 4 (301-600 mile radius) sees an increase of 30 cents.

Commercial priority packages up to £10 traveling to Zone 4 will cost 25 cents more.

Heavy packages that travel the maximum distance see a maximum increase of about $6.

Parcels affected by the rate change are: Priority Mail Express (PME), Priority Mail (PM), First-Class Package Service (FCPS), Parcel Select and USPS Retail Ground. International USPS products are not affected.

Price adjustments depend on the weight of the package and whether the package is shipping commercial or retail.

According to USPS, this temporary price increase will be similar to previous years and will help cover excess fees during peak holiday seasons.
