Val Kilmer's 'Top Gun: Maverick' scene is the emotional heart of the film

In 1986's Top Gun since Val Kilmer told Tom Cruise that he could be co-pilot at any time More than 30 years have passed. However, while Cruz returned to piloting Top Gun: Maverick,—now haveAmazon Prime,Vudu Streaming on digital platforms such as {15. } etc. — Kilmer's health problems keep the Iceman grounded. Still, the film pays tribute to The Iceman by featuring Kilmer in a moving scene with Cruise.

For those of you who have seen Kilmer's autobiographical 2021 documentary Val on Amazon Prime His Video, the Iceman actor You know you have a tube down your throat. He underwent a tracheostomy in 2015 while being treated for throat cancer. I decided to include it.

It is now established that Admiral and Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Tom "Iceman" Kazanski, is keeping his former rival from being stranded for good. Maverick still breaks the rules, but luckily he has a guardian angel watching over him, and Iceman's urging gave Maverick his second chance. Instead of flying, you train Top Gun recruits for dangerous missions. Maverick consults Iceman as he has trouble contacting Rooster (Miles his teller), the son of his late friend Goose.

Unfortunately, Iceman's throat cancer is getting worse. His wife tells Maverick that it is now painful for her husband to speak. Kilmer does little verbal dialogue, instead typing responses on a computer screen, but the actors are still able to convey the deep emotional bond between these two men. When he confesses that he's still upset about Goose's death, he nods sympathetically and shakes off Maverick's claims that the young man never listens to him. Then, when Maverick asks Iceman to send him on a mission instead of Rooster, he smiles sadly before entering the oft-repeated refrain from the first film: "It's time to let go

Maverick breaks down in tears as he confesses that he fears losing Rooster forever. (Probably the best moment of Cruise's acting in the movie, too.) Finally, Iceman speaks in a raspy voice. He tells Maverick that both the Navy and Rooster need Maverick, which is why he fought for him. It's exactly the emotional catharsis you were hoping for, complete with a playful reference to a former rivalry.

"This is a good moment," Maverick replied sarcastically. "Let's not mess it up."

This is Kilmer's only film and spoiler alert, but this could be his last scene. A scene from the franchise,if there was anotherTop Gunmovie. A few scenes later, Maverick learned that Iceman had died. But at least it's a substantive scene that serves as the film's emotional center — a perfect cap on the relationship between his two men set in the first Top Gun. After all, they may have been rivals in his 1986, but it was Iceman who ultimately came to Maverick's savior.

According to director Joseph Kosinski, it was Kilmer's idea to write his throat cancer into the film. We sat down with him and told him we wanted to find a way to get Iceman into the movie.

Kilmer is on social media and is ontop He's been vocal about his hopes of appearing in the Gunn sequel, which has officially been cast, and there have long been rumors that Kilmer and Cruise didn't get along on the set of the first film. However, it was Cruise who fought to cast Kilmer inMaverick, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in an interview with People, "[Cruise] , said, 'I've got to bring Val back, I've got to get him back.' In his documentary Val, Kilmer expressed that sentiment. He repeatedly said: As friends, we have always supported each other.

The genuine connection Kilmer and Cruise have in Maverick proves the veracity of what Kilmer said. The love between men, both characters and actors, feels undeniably genuine.
