Where Was ‘Murder Mystery 2’ Filmed? Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s Netflix Movie Travelled the World

Murder Mystery 2, which began streaming on Netflix today, features a variety of stunning locations because it’s not an Adam Sandler movie if it doesn’t double as an Adam Sandler vacation. Seriously, have you ever tried counting the number of Adam Sandler movies that take place in Hawai’i? That man has figured out the correct way to be a movie star, and it’s by getting movie studios to pay for your exotic trips.

Directed by Jeremy Garelick, with a screenplay by James Vanderbilt, Murder Mystery 2 reunites viewers with Nick and Audrey Spitz, the married couple played by Sandler and Jennifer Aniston who, despite their incompetence, managed to solve a murder case in the 2019 comedy Murder Mystery. The sequel finds the Spitz’s struggling to run their own detective agency, until they get an invite to the lavish destination wedding of an old friend. When that old friend gets kidnapped, Mr. and Mrs. Spitz are on the case.

There are plenty of glamorous locations in this movie, and you better believe the production really went there. Sandler isn’t in this business for a green screen vacation in Los Angeles! Read on to learn about the Murder Mystery 2 filming locations.

Where was Murder Mystery 2 filmed?

Murder Mystery 2 was filmed mainly in Hawai’i and in Paris, France. The first part of the movie, the Maharajah’s lavish wedding, takes place on an unspecified private, tropical island, and was filmed in one of Sandler’s favorite vacation spots: Hawai’i. More specifically, the wedding scenes were filmed at the Kualoa Ranch on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, a nature reserve and working cattle ranch that has been a popular filming location for many Hollywood movies, including Jurassic Park.

For the section of the film that takes place in Paris—after the Maharajah is kidnapped and taken there—the movie was filmed on location in and around the Paris area. Real-life Parisian landmarks that you’ll see in the film include the Arc de Triomphe, the Opera House (Palais Garnier), the Eiffel Tower, and the Love Locks Bridge (Pont des Arts). For the exterior of the lavish Countess Sekou’s mansion, the production filmed at Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, a 17th-century castle in southeast Paris.

In an interview for the Murder Mystery 2 press notes, Aniston said, “Shooting in Paris was everything you can imagine. It’s the most magical, beautiful city, and the people are so lovely. I think Adam walked every single street that exists in Paris. We were fortunate enough to shoot at these stunning landmarks that are the stuff of dreams.”

Because the movie was filmed in the winter, that final climactic fight sequence on the Eiffel Tower was partially filmed on a soundstage with a replica of the uppermost levels of the tower, which was made of steel and “textured with numerous layers of paint and outfitted with old machinery and wiring to make it look as close to the actual 136-year-old structure as possible,” according to the film’s press notes. It took over three months to build and was nicknamed “The Beast,” on set.

The scene in the Jules Verne restaurant was also filmed on a sound stage, in a slightly-bigger replica of the famous fancy restaurant, to allow for more room for stunts and filming. Set designers strove to get the recreation as close to the original as possible, including purchasing the actual chairs and tablecloths used at the real restaurant.

So there you have it! Murder Mystery 2 was filmed on location in Hawai’i and Paris, with just a little bit of movie magic sprinkled on top.
